Four artists from the USA and Czech Republic explore the crossovers between sound and visual experience. Stemming from early explorations in Sound and Space art from the 1960’s in California by artist such as Robert Irwin and James Thurrell, Michael Brewster. Califia’s founding artist, Barbara Benish, studied with Brewster in the late’s 1980’s in California, and her new work reflects recent underwater research into coastal reef life in the Pacific Ocean. Hugh Livingston has initiated many artistic projects and collaborations in the city of Oakland, notable among them the ARSTSHIP Recordings, which consisted of 54 CDs released in one year. With the support of the Open Circle Foundation, Hugh arranged musical performances along the hidden creeks. Martin Janicek is perhaps the most established Czech sound artist, exploring music and her instruments that lead the avant-garde local scene for over 20 years.
